Who Are We?

SAN Group (Satellite Brokerage Network) is dedicated to the creation, retention and growth of the local Independent Brokerage. SAN is also the largest network of independent insurance brokerages in the Northeast! Since 1983, SAN Group has offered growth opportunities to brokerages wishing to remain independent while being able to compete with other forms of insurance distribution.

SAN Group has more than 170 members with a combined premium exceeding $205 million.

SAN Group was developed in 1983 in response to the changes in the Independent Brokerage System. At the time many local brokerages were finding that it was impossible to meet volume requirements, keep markets and survive. The local Independent broker can now remain independent, keep existing markets while gaining new ones, and generate additional income from overrides and profit sharing with no minimum premium requirement. All without having to sell, merge or cluster.

SAN Group is a member of SIAA (Strategic Independent Brokers Alliance), which was formed in 1995. SIAA is the international organization by which the SAN Group concept is replicated throughout the United States and Canada.

Are There Additional Income Opportunities?

Both SAN Group and SIAA are constantly negotiating higher commissions, bonuses and overrides with carriers and vendors. Several excess compensation arrangements, premium financing, and excess and surplus lines overrides are also in effect.

What Type Of Brokerage Do We Look For?

SAN Group is seeking limited quality membership in 2004. We have no absolute brokerage profile because our membership is comprised of a wide range of brokerages. The common thread, however, is that SAN Members want to grow and remain independent.

If that describes you then SAN will help you meet your objectives. Many of our members are smaller brokerages in need of markets. Additionally, direct writers, life and financial service brokerages and producers without a vesting in their book have all found SAN Group membership beneficial.

Matthew Masiello
AAI · Chief Operating Officer · SAN Group · NH

Matt is responsible for the overall marketing and operations of SAN Group. His responsibilities include membership service and development; member and company relations; dissemination of information; meeting planning; and education. SAN Group has a current membership of more than 170 members writing in excess of $205 million of premium. Matt is leading the SIAA's original Satellite Master Brokerage into the new millennium.

Matt attended the University of Maine and is a licensed New Hampshire broker holding the Accredited Advisor of Insurance designation. With the SAN Group since 1993, Matt has worked in all aspects of the development and management of this successful organization. He currently sits on several insurance company advisory councils and has participated in the PIA School for Multiple Lines and the Commercial Union School for Personal and Commercial Lines.

Anthony L. Borruso
AAI · Vice President · New York

Tony is responsible for membership service, development, and insurance company relations for SAN Group Members throughout Eastern New York. Tony has 16 years of insurance industry experience. He was previously Director of Marketing and Membership Services for a State Association. He has worked as a personal and commercial lines producer for an independent broker, a small account manager for a large national broker, and a regional sales representative for a direct writing mutual company.

Tony holds licenses in Property and Casualty, Life and Accident and Health. Professional Designation of AAI. Attended Utica College of Syracuse University.

Michele DeForest
CPCU, CIC, LIA · Vice President · ME, MA & RI

With more than 20 years industry experience, Michele is responsible for the SAN Group's service and membership development in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. A former brokerage account executive, Michele also worked as a senior marketing representative for a major insurance company. Michele is a graduate of Anna Maria College and holds the professional designations of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Chartered Insurance Counselor, and Licensed Insurance Adviser.

Tom DiGirolamo
Vice President · Connecticut and Vermont

Tom is responsible for developing, servicing and training SAN Group Members throughout Connecticut. Tom has more than 20 years major insurance industry experience. He was previously a director of new business development and a marketing representative for personal and commercial lines. Tom also held senior management positions in administration, customer service, and sales and marketing. A graduate of Springfield College, Tom received the PIA Company Professional of the Year Award in 1995.
